Nepal 2015 Earthquake Relief

Dear friends and family,

My name is Sadichchha Shrestha. I am in my fourth year at the University of Calgary completing a major in Political Science and a minor in Law and Society. I am a Canadian citizen living in Calgary but I grew up in Nepal and was raised in a village called Dapcha until I was 5 years old. 

On the morning on April 25, 2015 I woke up to news of a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that had hit Nepal. You can imagine how I felt that morning trying to reach family members and friends in the village I grew up in and the capital city, Kathmandu.

This was the worst earthquake in over 80 years and destroyed the majority of precious heritage buildings in Nepal as well as rendered hundreds homeless, and thousands dead. There is an immediate need for emergency relief, hospital supplies, food and water. Members of my family in both the capital city, Kathmandu and the villages are camped with several hundred others outside.

 
Since every dollar you donate is approximately 100 Nepali Rupees, it will make a significant difference. Instead of buying a double-double at Tims or a Frappuccino at Starbucks, please consider donating here and supporting the relief for victims in Nepal. I will forever be grateful for your support. I will be donating 100% of the donations to Nepal. The Canadian government will be matching the donations I collect and then I will be sending it to Unicef who will TRIPLE the impact. If we collect $5,000 this will be $15,000 (thanks Canada and UNICEF) and that is approximately 1.15 MILLION rupees.  

My only intention with this page is that I can send the money directly to local organizations, since I grew up in Nepal, and have family there, our connection is strong. Thank you Gofundme for using the fee from the funds to donate towards relief efforts in Nepal as well. So now, 100% of funds in the 'Nepal' category will actually be sent to Nepal !
