In 2011, I was a contestant for the Miss California Pageant. 2 weeks before orientation, while out dining in Hollywood I became victim of a random assault. I was rushed to the hospital due to cuts I suffered from the plates and glass that were in the tables I was pushed into while they people were beating me. Not only were my Miss California dreams crushed, but I was also left with physcial, emotional, and finanacial scars. The group of individuals that attacked me were never identified or charged.
The last few years have been a very trying and challenging for me. I went through the healing process entirely alone, as I did not have any family near. I was not able to work for months and lost my car, my apratment, confidence and most importantly my drive.
Today, I am able to reflect on this incident and not be angered. I was blessed to see a side of myself that most do not get to discover. I learned how resilent I could actually be.
I have thought about competing in the pageant everyday since this happened to me and it is with great pleasure and happiness that I announce I will be competing in the 2016 Miss California Pageant.
Not only do I have to pay for the registration fees that are nearly 2,000$, I have to particiapte in numerous events throughout the entire year leading up to the pageant. Plus, you need to obtain a rigorous workout routine and strict meal plan, gown, hair, etc
I am working with the National Center for Victims of Crime to help others that have been through similar situations find physical, emotional, and financial support. I didn't know what lawyers to go to or any of the programs that victims had, and was not in a mental place to even deal with those tings on my own. I wish I would have known about NCVC back then.
I truly believe that this is something that I need to complete so that I can fully heal from what happened to me. I do not want my assailants to win. I hope that my story reaches others who have been victimized and they will be motivated to keep fighting for their dreams.
