Help Keep Kevin Henry on The Road

Donation protected
The mini film series being made is geared towards investigative type video journalism, and it will be about exploring a more West Coast view of Indigenous resistance towards the colonial state.

I have another great chance to get on the road and find Indigenous peoples protecting their homelands from destruction, devestation, and desecration. My hope is to help educated Indigenous youth that culture is an answer, and I could really use your support with travel funds so I can purchase gas, eat food, stay in a hostel here and there when I need to recharge not only the camera batteries, but our batteries as well. I will be the only driver for this trip this time around, and we a two person crew, and we are heading south, driving towards California along the 101 highway, and then if I can raise enough funds here, my goals are to drive towards New Mexico, visit the Apache Stronghold happening, and discuss with each Indigenous person I come across of the roots Native peoples carry by looking in to the past to protect the future.

I was sitting at home fixing up a short video to promo my concepts, and suddenly foudn myself reading about the recent devesation, a total of 105,000 gallon oil spill on video, and in pictures, down in Santa Barbara California, just really put this July road trip being planned out in total perspective as to why I do what I hope to accomplish from being immersed into film and different visual art mediums: to record Indigenous people resisting colonial occupation....
ALRIGHT, WHO IS KEVIN HENRY?

I am a 30 year visual artsist, all the things visual, including words, poetry, and also film. I've been tinkering with my style of film for three years now. And I've quickly fallen in love with the idea of story telling with a camera.

KEVIN’S HENRY’S CREATIVE THOUGHT PROCESS

When I first named the title of the film, I was honestly unsure of how to carry forward so I named it 'QA, which means "water" in my ancestor’s island based language, then, at around four in the morning, the water monster flowed to me, but then I had a moment of clarity in thinking it should be called the arena and not that I think a film should be made on how an arena is constructed or why that movie shouldn't ever exist ‘cause it’d boring, but because that is also not the point-the point is showing how all things in this world are somehow connected.

"Human Rights: Water’s Not Included"<----That's it, that's the name of this documentary!

KEVIN REALLY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT EVEN ONE DOLLAR WORKS!

I don’t know how to ask for help, support, let alone money. I’m to a point of being anti-capitalist so much that I love the fact that I'm on welfare just because it controls my cash flow for me. Strange, right? I know, it is a solid set amount that I can get by on, struggling but not struggle, still, I get by, I manage, I survive on about 363 dollars a month minus the expenses of my urban life.

Researching how industry is creating new age genocide of Natives and non-natives is really alarming, so let’s turn the page, I wanna travel to California, find a better understanding of how Indigenous peoples are resisting occupation of their respective homelands. Water is sacred, the earth is sacred, well, in reality, all forms of life is deeply sacred in some aspect.

I am creating this film series with absolutely no money stored in my budget vault because I don't have a vault to begin with, this film series will be created with no fancy camera at my disposal at present, just your basic consumer based camcorder, and an older model zoom digital voice recorder.

The nightmare of white men with their nails digging in the tar sands soon became my dream to create different art mediums which is spun from the vision of their greed, which for me, is a fallacy capitalism created by way of building this consuming consumer conjuring up more consumerism; mixed in to this craziness is our global endeavors to “acquire” the world’s natural resources but in unnatural ways. This is taking us towards total extinction, and to a point of tipping, I feel like the sun will implode, and the earth will die.

Tainting that image even further are the many Indigenous peoples’ ancestors that once were connected to the ground now covered with cement riddled cities with a more skewered white man’s needs for a six figure income...he is the settler we will read about as “God like”....

But yeah I mean why support an Indigenous filmmaker creating a documentary about social change because it's the LEFT thing to do

Thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart for help in any form

RISKS & CHALLENGES

The challenges already have been creating, then editing a short film showing you who I am (included in this fundraising campaign). Explaining what I'm about, and since video editing requires the right equipment, mine has all but quit on me, now my replacement laptop died, I cried, yeah, it was difficult time, but I am managing with basic technological means to create anything and everything. This work I do is done with very basic editing software (windows movie maker!). Right off the bat, second challenge to overcome will of course be being financed, and backed to create this documentary.

I must agree with my co-worker that letting money stop us from travelling, and for me, creating this film series with no cash, just isn't an option or reason to give up, so we are taking off regardless of funds acquired through this site, or the ones I've been barely able to save up to leave the island. I've been collecting empty pop/beer cans/bottles to help, and have been successful to a point I can at the least get off the island and figure out my cash flows from there.

We need strong community type support, please share this link gofundme.com/lbfilms as much as you can, please feel free to tell everyone about "Human Rights: Water's Not Included", and also know that in anyway you can, please, please donate funds, talk about this documentary, talk about me, and my goals from this, anything you can do all needs your strong support.

Any other challenges that may arise will be carrying strong spiritual Native faith that my War Pony will make the long journey south
