On August 25th, our friend, Kim Hix, passed away in a tragic accident while vacationing in Newfoundland (her favorite place on earth). For all those who knew her, Kim was a larger than life personality, with an enormous heart and even bigger smile. She had an innate ability to bring people together, and many of us became friends because Kim introduced us to each other.
As an avid concert goer and ambassador of traditional folk music in all its forms, Kim spent much of her life traveling, photographing, and celebrating music, particularly that of Newfoundland.
With the kind permission from her family, I set up this campaign to raise funds for a charity in Kim's honor. The chosen charity is the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society (NLFAS) located in St. John's, NL whose mission is the promotion and preservation of the traditional folk arts of the province. What better way to honor Kim's memory than to donate to the support of traditional music and art of the place she loved the most. This campaign will run for 30 days so that everyone who is interested in donating to this wonderful cause will have the opportunity to do so.
Please Note: This campaign is listed as a personal fundraiser rather than a charitable donation. The reason for this is that NFLAS was not listed as one of the recognized charities in the GoFundMe list. Please be assured that all funds raised by this campaign (less the processing fees charged by GoFundMe) will be donated to the NFLAS in Kim's honor. I will upload receipts/donation forms once the donation is made.
