Journey to World 2015

Hi! I'm Kaili and I'd like to share my journey with you. Since I was young, it was my dream to ride a self-made horse at the highest level. To be the underdog, experience rags-to-riches, to succeed despite never having a hand up. This year, I have my opportunity - I'm going to the Western Dressage World Championships.

I rescued my horse Soby as a baby in 2010. I scraped together everything I had to make it happen - it was a leap of faith and a mere $200 unquestionably well-spent. We clicked instantly, and I trained her from the ground up. Within a short time it was pretty obvious that we were a perfect match.
No-one had given Soby the time of day and I could relate. I was a young but determined amateur trainer and a fierce advocate for horse rescue. Growing up, I was that scrappy kid who would ride any horse she could get her hands on - wild or not. I’m sure I terrified my parents on more than one occasion (sorry, mom!). I worked hard, volunteered and apprenticed to learn my trade. I never had a hand up. My horses were trained by me or not at all. I learned by doing and I learned from my horses.
I am determined to make a place for myself in a cowboy's world. I want to prove the worth of a california cowgirl and her rescued paint horse. Help Soby and I become ambassadors for our sport.
To this day, I might be eating peanut butter sandwiches, working two jobs and scrambling to make rent, but I have my Soby and we’re better than ever. And this year, circumstance gives us a fighting chance to get to World.I know this trip won’t be easy, but I have three things in my favor; I’m stubborn. I believe in my horse and the partnership we’ve built. And I believe that our community is behind us.
