Help Jimmy Beat Cancer

Donation protected
My father, Jimmy Nadel, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He has adenocarcinoma of the parotid gland with metastasis. Immediately after his diagnosis, he underwent a 9-hour operation that removed the parotid gland and tumor from his carotid artery. He also had 44 lymph nodes removed. As a result of the operation, there is nerve damage in his face and he has difficulty speaking. He had to have radical neck resection with a nerve graph. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation to help restore facial nerve damage and his speech.  He will be receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment over the next several months. While undergoing his chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he will be unable to work and thereby creating a great financial hardship on our cost of medical expenses and living expenses.

My father is the most kind-hearted, outgoing, hard-working, dedicated, and honest man. He has worked as an Electrician within the IBEW Local 3 Union for the past 28 years. He is known as “Sparky Jimbo” and “Big Jim” in the IBEW community. On September 11, 2001, my father was one of the responders performing emergency electrical services around the 9/11 disaster zone. His duties included establishing and maintaining an emergency generator, restoring vital communications services and assisting with periodic bucket brigade services as requested by the Fire Department of New York. He worked double shifts and slept in a Red Cross tent periodically over the course of six-months. The type of cancer my father has been diagnosed with is one of many cancers linked to the 9/11 disaster. We feel that this exposure is the primary contributing factor to my father getting cancer.

My father’s jolly and cheerful manner can brighten any person’s day. He has loved his profession and held it in the highest regard with proud admiration. My father’s life has been devoted to the service of people, the community, and his family. During snow storms he helps snow blow neighborhoods and even set up free generators when Hurricane Sandy hit. He has always been a person who put others before himself in so many ways. No matter how bad things could be throughout life, he always maintained a positive attitude. He has always given to his community without expecting anything in return. He gave with his heart and continues to give with his heart.

We are seeking any financial support to help cover medical and cost of living expenses. Any charitable contribution to help my family get through these difficult times would be greatly appreciated.

God bless and thank you.

Love,
Caroline Nadel
