Giving Support for Jenny's Recovery

Donation protected
Imagine settling down after a great evening into bed. Like any other night, you sink in to the safe, soft, warm, familiar bed. You close your eyes and fall asleep. Everything is as it should be.

All of a sudden, you're violently jerked from the peace of your dreams. Darkness. Confussion. Searing Pain. All you can hear is POP! POP! POP! POP! POP! You have no idea what is happening. Completely disoriented, your hands touch the source of the pain on your abdomen. Your hands and fingers are wet and sticky. You squint your eyes to see what it is in the dark of the early morning hours. Its blood. The sticky wet liquid all over your hands is blood. Your blood.

Reality sets in: Someone shot you while you were sleeping.

This is the nightmare turned reality that happened to Jennifer Gelatka after she went to bed on Monday, April 6th, 2015. Sometime in the hours of the early morning, some one open fired several rounds of bullets into the home where Jennifer was sleeping.

Fortunately, the police arrived in time to take Jennifer to the hospital and save her life. The doctors were unable to remove the bullet lodged in her stomach due to complications of the gun shot. But plan on monitoring the bullet and hope to be able to remove it from her body in a few weeks.

Unfortunately, Jennifer does not have health insurance. Jennifer cannot pay her hospital bill. Jennifer cannot afford her perscriptions. Jennifer cannot afford to pay for her upcoming surgery to remove the bullet.

Most Unfortunate: The hospital directed Jennifer to one month of strict bed rest during her recovery from that traumatic and devistating night. But due to her financial situation, Jennifer cannot take off the time to focus on recovery. Jennifer must continue to go to work if she wants to make rent on time, pay for utilities, put food in her belly, and clothes on her back. But as a busy bartender on her feet for hours at a time, Jennifer is in no position to return to her work before cleared to work by her doctors.

This GoFundMe Campaign is designed to benefit Jennifer Gelatka, 27, of Kansas City, Missouri. The money raised will go towards paying off medical bills, paying for perscriptions, paying rent/utilities, and provide groceries to Jennifer during her recovery from the scariest night of her life.

Jennifer Gelatka, 27, currently works as a bartender at Barrel 31. She is a proud graduate from Shawnee Mission East. A Kansas City local, Jennifer loves City Market, the Kansas City Royals, and a Z-Man from Joe's KC (formly Oklahoma Joe's). She is close to her mother and two younger sisters, Leah and Libby.

Jennifer is a free spirit with the most generous heart. Please leave messages of support, make a donation, or share this campaign to make a difference in the life of a girl who brings so much light into this world.

We cannot change the senseless act of violence that could have taken her life. But if we pull together, we can make a direct impact on her ability to recover without worrying about the security in her job, her home, and her access to medical care.
