"Jazz Cup" Creator Recognition

My name is Michael Burgess. My mother, Gina Ekiss, is the designer of the iconic "Jazz Cup" design from the 90's. This story recently exploded on Reddit, reaching the #2 spot on the front page 6/18/2015 thanks to a reporter interested in finding the true designer.

As an employee of Sweetheart Cup Company in 1989, an internal contest was held to create the new stock design for the company. After winning the contest, there was no bonus for having her design selected. No royalties either, since the company took ownership of the pattern. Years ago, I hadn't thought anything of it as she didn't seem to think this was a problem.

After hundreds of requests and comments from people wishing to help contribute, I've decided to create this GoFundMe for her to help give her some of the recognition she deserves for creating something so iconic.

Now that I've been going to school as a designer, myself, following in her footsteps, I am beginning to realize that she deserved much more appreciation than she was given by the company. This is the first kind of recognition she has received, all thanks to Reddit. It has overwhelmed her with happiness that her design lives on and people out there still appreciate it for what it's worth.

If possible, I'd love to give those who appreciate that design a chance to give back to a humbled artist that wasn't given any sort of compensation for her legendary design. I couldn't be more proud of my mother for accomplishing something all designers dream of. I thank anyone and everyone who decides to contribute.
