If you knew Brian, really knew Brian, you know that he loved HIS Brooke! Ask him where Brooke was going to college and you would soon find out that she went to Darton on a full basketball scholarship where she graduated with a 2 year degree, a 3.8 GPA and earned the Scholar Athlete award. He would tell you how she had transfered to LaGrange and played basketball while working on her degree. He would then go on to tell you how she transferred to the University of North GA in Dahlonega. Though she is not playing basketball, we are making it work. She is currently a Senior getting a degree in Physical Education and will be going on to get her masters degree as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Finally, he would tell you how it is his wish that she even go on to get her Doctorate degree. This was Brian's wish for Brooke. That she not only get a degree, but get a masters and even a doctorate. Brooke is well on her way to making her and her daddy's wish come true!
I say that because, being the no-nonsence and practical person that Brian was, he did not want a traditional funeral with lots of flowers that would soon die. He did not want his family to spend a lot of money on a funeral to put him in a grave. He told us, "I especially do not want family and friends coming back to a burial site because I am not there!" He believed, like it tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:8 ...to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
To honor Brian's wishes, he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Douglasville at 2PM Saturday September 19th. Many friends and family have asked us about sending flowers. In lieu of sending flowers, we would like to suggest that friends and family honor Brian by helping make his wish for a higher education for Brooke come true.
We want to thank family and friends for their support during this difficult time. We love you all.
