Hiking the Appalachian for Cancer

Donation protected
In 1996, my brother and I lost our mother to pancriatic cancer, we were 12 and 13. Before that, our grandmother and uncle succumbed to the disease. This was a very devastating time in our lives.  Recently, my life has given me a new opportunity due to my divorce.  I'm feeling free. I am not tied down.  I'm feeling the wanderlust.

My brother and I came up with a plan.  We wanted to do something adventurous, something great.  We've decided to embark on a five month trip to hike the Appalachian Trail for Cancer. The first thing we did was contact the American Cancer Society and talked with them. It turns out that no one has ever done an event of this magnitude before.

As you can imagine, my divorce left me with very little. I had my car and my dog.  My life was like a sterotypical country song. The only thing getting in our way of this momentous fundraiser is getting off on our feet.   The hike, 2181 miles, is the easy part. The largest obstacle is getting enough donations together to start this trip for the three of us. We are asking for your help to get us going. My dog Roland, Kevin and myself. Although we have all of our own gear, we are looking for donations for food and traveling expenses, to get to Georgia and back from Maine. This journey will take us about 5 months. It will give us the opportunity to raise money and awareness for cancer as we work in conjunction with Relay for Life along our route.

This undertaking will fail before it begins without you and your support. I will be documenting this venture on my blog, which will be updated regularly from the trail. I will write everyday with our progress and everything that happens. Whether you are able to donate or not you can read all about our adventure and find our contact info at WWW.thegypsyitch.wordpress.com. We thank you and appreciate any help you may give in prayers, support, donations, even in just sharing our story with friends and family.  Please like and share this on your social media to help spread the word.
