I write with sad news. Charlotte (she is only 4 years old) suffered what neurologists think was either a stroke or spinal embolism. It happened October 8th 2014. She is now a Quadriplegic, My wife and I are not giving up.
The first thing we decided was that we were not going to destroy her. We are convinced that we can get her walking again. Between the 24hr care we are providing her at home, and hourly homegrown physical therapy. We also have her in actual physical therapy three times a week. they provide her with hydrotherapy, laser and ultrasound treatment, and electro shock therapy to stimulate the muscles in her legs, and reestablish new pathways from her brain to her legs.
Between the initial cost of $6,500 for the emergency visit to the nurologist and the three day stay at thier facility for observation, and testing, and medications.
And the physical therapy cost of $80 per visit, at three times a week, that is $240 weekly. We are going to need a little help so we can continue to fight the good fight. It was all a suprise, and we were not prepared for the financial hit. We think that offsetting the $6,500, and the first few weeks of Physical Therapy should get us over the hard part. We can handle the rest. We just need some help to get on our feet with this new budget.
In just the three weeks since we have had her home we have seen great strides in her recovery. She now has conscious control of her front left paw. She can give me it on command (for treats), and she holds her favorite toy down with it while she chews on it. We have also got her to flex, and retact her hind legs (both of them) through stretching, and pinching her toes. And just the other day I got her to respond to tickling. It is all positive so far.
She has no brain damage and is fully aware of us and her condition. I am not ready to give up on my love yet. As long as she is happy and not in pain. We will fix her. I have to. She is my favorite thing in the universe, and I promised her with tears.
