Javonte McNair's Medical Fund

Tax deductible
Javonte McNair is my Little Brother through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County program. He is a great kid with a fantastic mom Theresa McNair, and siblings who love him. He is a fantastic athlete and a star football player in his league. Since Javonte and I were paired up almost 3 years ago, we do things like fish, go to football and baseball games, swim, do homework, repair and build things and just hang out. He is a wonderful young man and has become part of our whole family.

On Wednesday, July 8 2015, Javonte's life changed in a split second. As he was riding his bike home to meet his football coach, someone threw a lit firework at him. He raised his right hand in front of his face to deflect, and when it exploded, the impact tore Javonte's right hand off and sent shrapnel pieces all over his upper body and into his left eye.

Javonte dropped his bike and ran the block home, screaming for his mom.  Theresa called 911, and they raced him to Broward General Hospital, where surgeons amputated the rest of his right hand. While he was under anesthesia, doctors were able to get a look at Javonte's damaged left eye. When they saw the extent of it, they made arrangements to transport him to the Ryder Trauma Center and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute immediately following his hand surgery.  Javonte had 5 hours of surgery to repair the ocular rupture. They found the fuse part of the explosive imbedded in his eye. They repaired what they could, replacing his cornea and fluid he lost when his eye ruptured.  There is a glimmer of hope that he will have very limited sight in that eye.

Here's where you can help.  MEDICAL BILLS!  Javonte has great support from his extensive family, his coaches, my family, and especially from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward that brought us together in the first place.  But the MEDICAL BILLS will be astronomical! Not only will there be tremendous copays for treatment already received, but Javonte's injuries will require so much therapy - physical and emotional.  I just took a shot at an amount when establishing the goal for this fund...I'm sure it will be more, but every little bit will help and I know that by reducing this burden on his family, they will have that much more energy to help this great young man become a great adult!

Thank you in advance.
