HELP LEO & OREO GET HOME

Donation protected

Short version:

You may recall the Miller's, the two that killed two of our Las Vegas Metro Police Officers and an innocent civilian. Amanda Miller brought two family cats with her when she moved to Las Vegas; after they both died that day, their neighbor wanted to keep the cats (only because she thought she could get money for these cats). Instead, she surrendered them to AC, and Nevada Voters for Animals rescued them, they are currently with a foster family. Amanda Miller's family desperately wants these two cats returned to them, but after paying for her body to be transported and funeral arrangements in Lafayette, they don't have a lot of money. This family are very nice people, they tried so hard to keep their daughter away from Jerad Miller. So sadly, these two cats are also innocent victims of that terrible tragedy. Please help us get Leo & Oreo back to Indiana.

In Depth Version:

My name is Gina and I'm President of Nevada Voters For Animals.  I'm an animal & community advocate.  Like many in my community, I was shocked, saddened and horrified by the crimes committed by the Miller's. I went to their facebook pages hoping to get answers and understand what happened. That's where I noticed Leo and Oreo as prominent fixtures on both of the Millers' pages.  It was reported in the news that SWAT Teams had set off many flash bangs at the Millers' apt.  I cringed thinking those innocent cats were in there.  So, I set out to see what happened to them.  When no one seemed to have info, I drove over to the apts myself.   There was a locked gate and armed security guard because of all the media. There was one neighbor in particular who the Miller's were staying with and was in the news for being friends with the Miller's. I tracked her down and she assured me she would care for the cats because Amanda Miller left them in her care.  I told her we had fosters willing to take them and we could put them into rescue.  She refused and I handed her my card in case she was unable to care for them.

A few weeks ago, I received a call from a neighbor of the lady who said she was keeping the cats.  She informed me that if the cats weren't picked up immediately they would be turned loose on the streets.  I explained I needed some time to find a foster since we have a huge cat overpopulation in Las Vegas and all the rescues were full. I asked why this sudden change of heart and she said the lady had become allergic to them and wanted them out, now!  (we found out later she may have been trying to use them to get money from the family of Amanda Miller)  We found a foster and we called to arrange pick up of the cats.  The lady said they were already given away to an older couple.  I reached out to Miller's family to inform them of what was happening and they immediately expressed concern over what may have happened to Leo & Oreo.  They asked if there was any way possible to get Leo & Oreo back home.  They explained they didn't have the resources because of expenses in getting their daughter's body back to Indiana and funeral expenses.

Myself and a volunteer just didn't believe the cat story so we drove down to the apts and demanded to know where the cats were and we finally learned the truth that they had been picked up by animal control.  They were kept on a 10 day hold which was a miracle because when an owner surrenders in person at the shelter the animals can be euthanized after 24 hrs. A rescue was able to pull them after the legal hold, when they would surely have been euthanized as our local shelter was over capacity with cats due to a cat hoarder situation and Leo had developed an Upper Respiratory Infection.  We rescued them  from the shelter and they have been with a loving foster.  Unfortunately, Since then, Oreo developed an URI and he was treated with meds from the shelter.  Now, Oreo has tape worms and we fear for the other cats getting them. Leo is still sick and we must get clean bills of health before transport.

Oreo and Leo have been through so much in the past 7 months: they were driven across country, they've survived losing their owners, having their apt flash banged by swat teams approx 10 times (they were right next door), abandoned by the neighbor who was supposed to care for them, picked up by animal control in cages and transported in AC truck, 10 day hold at the shelter, URI's, tapeworms, and lord knows what else.  Oreo was seen by a vet and Leo requires a vet visit and we need help paying the vet bills. And, once they are well enough, we need help getting them transported back to Indiana to a loving home.

Please help us get Leo & Oreo back home.  They are truly innocent victims.
