Preposterous Glitch Reunion Train

The Preposterous Glitch Reunion Train of Epic Proportions

How would you move across a continent? You’d probably pack your bags and take a plane or a train, or maybe you’d load up a car and spend five lonely, grueling days on the open road.

But how do you move a Glitch across a continent? With style and meandering detours to the middle of nowhere, that’s how.

Faranae (that’s me!) needs to move from Tampa, Florida, to Vancouver, British Colombia. But I’m a Glitch, and that means doing it in the ordinary way just won’t do. It helps that I want to bring my guitar and easel, and I don’t have a driver’s license, much less own a car. So instead, I’m asking You™to help, my fellow Glitchen (and possibly other persons hereafter known as honorary Glitchen).

It’s not going to just be a cross-continent move. Nope, I want to make this a Feat! A dancing, snaking, glorious Glitchy train across North America, an epic Game of Crowns where I’m the crown! It’s sort of like a Glitch Reunion Tour, or a Glitch Convention that comes to you. From Tampa to Vancouver, Glitchen will pick me up and toss me in their car, and we’ll drive along to the next Glitch willing to drive a few hundred miles to meet more Glitchen. Wherever possible, we’re going to do meet-ups, perform silly dances, check out preposterous sights, and participate in other Glitchy things. The whole wacky journey will be posted on the web for any Glitch to enjoy, whether you participate or not.

Do you want to join in the fun? There’s lots of ways to be part of this Feat! You can give some money here on GoFundMe to help pay back all the heroes for gas, hotels, and food. If you only want to give a little money, we’ll have a web button for “buying us coffee,” which won’t have any fees taken from your donation. Are you somewhere near-ish to the route? You can meet up with fellow Glitchen, offer to steal the crown for some miles, loan us a couch and a roof for the night, or add noteworthy locations to the Feat map. Even if you’re not going to participate, you should add yourself to the map with a comment. You don’t have to use your real address on the map—you can just stick your pin in your town or the capital of the state/province/territory/country where you live.

If we get enough money, there’s piles of silly things I’d like to do. Some of them are very small—postcards sent from the route to the Feat backers, for example. Some of them are not so small, like a detour to the Alamo so I can leave behind a spoon in “Mexico” and continue my running gag of “strewing household goods across North America.” Some are really elaborate, like Ur passports for heroes of the Feat to document their part of the trip.

But to do that crazy stuff, we have to cover the costs. There’s gas, which fuelgaugereport.com puts between $250 and $300. There’s at least one stop not covered by a couch surf, and since h/motel costs vary so much by area, that’s $100 per paid rest needed. For food, I used the U.S. government’s per diem system to get a rough estimate of $270 to cover two people’s meals twice a day for 10 days. Obviously we aren’t only going to be eating at roadside diners, but it would be nice to compensate our couch surfs for dinner or breakfast. Also, I can’t eat fast food, so the food isn’t as cheap as it could be. Unless we find someone to drive from El Paso to Los Angeles, I will be taking the Sunset Limited for part of the way—that will run between $150 and $250, depending on when I buy the ticket and how fast and loose they let me play with the baggage rules. I will be using my expense reporting skills (and some expense sheets stolen from my dad’s office supplies) to track exactly what is spent by whom for every day of the journey. So total transparency will be go!

So yeah, come join the fun! It’s going to be absolutely preposterous, and I think you will like it~!
