THE PROBLEM
Federal Way has inadequate services for homeless people, especially during the day.
No showers and laundry facilities are available on a predictable, consistent basis.
Homeless lack an address and access to a computer to aid in job search & applications.
There is no source of all up-to-date listings of resources within the area for food, shelter, clothing, counseling, etc. Each organization lists only those relating to the services they offer.
GOALS OF THE DAY CENTER
To provide social and emotional support.
To enable confidence in those served to move toward self-sufficiency.
To meet basic human needs of cleanliness.
To provide the homeless with a mailing address, which is a step toward independence and aids in lessening the negative impact of homelessness.
To minimize the impact of the homeless using the library, shopping malls and hospital emergency rooms.
