FOVFD Mack Fire Truck Restoration

The Fairdealing-Olive Volunteer Fire Department out of Marshall County, KY. is currently working to restore our 1951 Mack 85LS Fire Truck. This truck was donated to our department in 1981 by the Louisville, KY. Fire Department.  This truck proudly served our community for many years until she was finally retired in the mid 1990's. It has since been stored and displayed at Forgotten Past Museum on Highway 68 just a few miles from our station. Last year we escorted a tow truck (donated by Glens Towing) back to our station with the old Mack that had been collecting dust and dirt for around 20 years. When we got it back to the station we quickly realized how much time and effort was going to be needed for this project. Recently a few of us have been working hard on getting the restoration in motion. In just a few weeks with a lot of determination and  volunteer time we now have the engine running and have driven it around the lot. We are currently working to rebuild the brake system and have been enquiring about getting paint etc. donated for the project. Unfortunately we are working on a very tight budget and may not be able to continue the restoration without additional funds. Right now we are working to rebuild as much as possible and replace only what must be to save money. In addition to mechanical repairs and tires, we will soon have to locate things that used to be on the truck like ladders, nozzles, suction hose etc. It's not going to happen overnight but we have good momentum going and would like to expedite progress as much as possible. Additional funds from donations will help keep us headed in the right direction on the project without immediate fear of having limited funds. Upon completion we plan to use the truck for educational purposes at local school districts to demonstrate fire history in and around Marshall County. We also plan to use the truck in other local events like car shows parades etc. All donated monies are given to the our treasurer who is maintaining restoration expenses in a seperate budget.
