DI Dragons International 2015!

Donation protected
Please help send this great team of 8, 9 and 10 year olds from Coyote Creek Elementary School and Hidden Hills Elementary School in San Ramon, CA and Marshall Elementary School in Castro Valley, CA to the 2015 Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville Tennessee from May 20 - 23, 2015!

This is Dragons International's first year participating in Destination Imagination.  They came Third Place in the Best of the Bay Regional Tournament on February 14th, and came in Second Place in the California State Tournament on March 28th and is going to Globals in Knoxville, Tennessee.

It's a huge honor for the team to be selected to compete at Global Finals after winning at the regional and state levels, but the teams can't go onto Globals without YOU!

The students must raise funds to pay for their  registration fees, airfare and ground transportation, and food and accommodations in Tennessee. With only a few weeks to go until Globals, the pressure is on.

Mission of Destination Imagination (DI):
To develop opportunities that inspire the global community of learners to utilize diverse approaches in applying 21st century skills and creativity.

The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts and service learning.  Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Teams showcase their solutions at a tournament.

What is Destination Imagination (DI)?
Destination Imagination (DI) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization whose purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders.

DI offer seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables students to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.  Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge.  In working to solve the Challenges, teams learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and build on their unique strengths.

DI develops programs annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards.

How Did We Get To Globals?
Our  main  Challenge was Feary Tales in the Fine Arts category.

Dragons International presented a team created fairy tale about a character, Miss Flames, that faces and deals with her phobia of loosing her fire.  They created an expressive artwork with songs that conveyed a thought or feeling to the audience and a functional artwork of a dragon made of stone that served as a practical function.

The team designed and created an illusion of a fire pit that made the impossible seem possible.  Finally, the team created and presented two Team Choice Elements that showed off their interests, skills and areas of strength and talents.

Destination Imagination teams that advance past Regional and state/country (Affiliate) tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals on Knoxville Tennessee —the world's largest celebration of creativity.  The Global Finals is the culminating event of every Destination Imagination season.  In May, over 1,400 teams from teams from 45 states, 7 Canadian provinces and 13 countries gather to showcase their Challenge solutions.  Over 16,000 people attend Global Finals to celebrate creativity and have fun.

We need your help! Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
