Help San Francisco's Homeless

Tax deductible
Hello,

We are members of Dignity San Francisco*, and we are raising money for various homeless charities around the city, including those that work with youth and LGBT people.

On March 18, our local CBS affiliate reported a disturbing story regarding St. Mary's Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco.

It had been common for homeless people in San Francisco to sleep in the doorway of the cathedral to stay safe from the elements at night. However, for the past two years, the cathedral had been using a water system that flooded the doorway, drenching anybody sleeping there at night.

Every 30 to 60 minutes, the system would run a shower lasting about 75 seconds. Any homeless person unfortunate enough to get doused in the doorway would be vulnerable to hypothermia for the rest of the night, particularly if they had a limited amount of clothing or were in poor health to begin with.

The archdiocese has since been ordered by the city of San Francisco to remove the system, which had been found in violation of building codes. Although now, there seems to be a makeshift barricade on the property, as pictured above (photo credit: John Bare on Twitter @JBinSFO).

We, the members of Dignity San Francisco, are disgusted, angered and saddened by the archdiocese's actions, which have hurt some of the most vulnerable people in need of help. That's why our community feels compelled to start this GoFundMe page.

All the donations we collect on this page will be divided among the following charities:

St. Martin House of Hospitality
Larkin Street Youth Services
Coalition on Homelessness
Project Homeless Connect

All of your donations to our campaign are tax deductible. If you feel the need to help, but cannot afford to donate at this time, please share this message far and wide on your social media.

Thank you.
