Hello, my name is Norm Barney and I am a teacher and PBIS Coach at Chiloquin Elementary School. We are excited to be starting another school year! We have seen huge growth and improvement here at CES and believe it is due in large part through our efforts as a school-wide PBIS School. PBIS.org
Simply put PBIS is system that guides students in changing their behaviors in a positive manner. PBIS.org
Since implementing school-wide PBIS we have seen our attendance rate rise to 94% up from 88% and our referrals have dropped by an amazing 64% and perhaps our proudest achievement is seeing our test score dramatically improve!
Two years ago we started each school day with a PBIS assembly where we recognize student’s positive changed behaviors with a prize drawing. Students are issued PRIDE Awards by staff for their positive changed behaviors and the PRIDE Awards are then placed in a box and we draw names and students can chose a prize off of the prize table.
We have averaged 3,500 prizes awarded each of the past two years. This is what 100% of monies raised will be used for. We go out and ask for product or dollar donations to help keep our morning assembly drawings going. Proofs in the pudding as they say, our students do not want to be late for the morning assembly. Students that come to school become better learners.
It's because of folks like you and local businesses that have made our PBIS Program such a huge success.
Our staff at Chiloquin Elementary also needs to be recognized for our overall success. When you have a group of people that believe in what they are doing and work together as a team it often lead to great things.
As an educator beginning my 29th year it never gets old to see the smile on a child’s face when they are recognized for doing the right thing.
Thank you for all that you do for our students. In my mind it's an investment in a child’s future.
