Today Chad begins his next round of chemotherapy. He is feeling strong and ready, though a little nervous. Positive thoughts are appreciated as he grinds through the next five weeks.

When we started Chad vs. Leukemia, it was because a handful of people had contacted me in the days following his diagnosis wanting to know how they could help. I think I set the original fundraising goal at $5,000. never dreamed that this community would be so generous and that we would be only $1,250 short of our newest goal of $40K just 7 weeks after his diagnosis. I think his amazing response to the initial round of treatment is due in part to his youth and fitness and in large part to his stubbornness - but the fact that his spirits were kept high knowing there were so many people out there pulling for him has made a huge difference. He still has a long way to go but he has made an incredible start. Whether you contributed $5 or $5,000, you have made an important contribution to Chad's recovery. Thank you!!!

Great news: Chad has responded well to the first phase of treatment and the doctors have let him go home for a few days to recuperate before starting the next round of treatment. His spirits are high and he is so grateful for everyone's support!

After feeling under the weather for awhile, Chad went to Morristown Medical Center on the afternoon of January 2, 2014. By that evening he had been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC).

He underwent extensive testing through the night and started aggressive treatment right away. He will stay in the medical ICU during the first phase of his treatment, which should last several weeks.

Chad's treatment will be long and debilitating, and it will be quite some time before he will be able to return to work. Those who wish to help defray the staggering out-of-pocket costs of his experimental treatment are invited to make a contribution.

He and his family sincerely appreciate your support! To follow his progress on Caring Bridge, please visit http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/chaddlugolecki

I welcome the day that this is all over and Chad is well and home again. All prayers, thoughts and wishes are always with him through myself, my family and all of my friends. May God bless him and keep him well to return home healthy and ever better.
