CAROLINAS AGAINST CANCER

Donation protected
This year, the Carolinas Chapter of CMAA is on a mission to raise money to help find a cure for kidney cancer. The cause hits especially close to the heart of the Greensboro Country Club team, as Judy Deaton, wonderful wife of the club's Director of Golf, Jim Deaton, has been fighting kidney cancer for several years. Wake Forest University has been wonderful in their support of and care for the Deatons and, in an effort to keep the fundraising dollars close to home in the Carolinas, the Chapter's donation this year will go to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist, located in Winston-Salem, NC.

Carolinas Against Cancer was incepted in 2010 as a way for the Carolinas Chapter to support a different cancer-related cause each year. Collectively, we are able to donate a greater dollar amount toward finding a cure for cancer. In the inaugural year of 2010, the Chapter donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; in 2011, Chapter members participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society; in 2012-2013, the Chapter partnered with The Jenny Sullivan Sanford Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center to fight against skin cancer; and, last year, the Chapter raised more than $30,000 for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in support of pancreatic cancer research.
