A New Well For A Great Family

To tell you about the Shipman family requires a short trip back through time.

In 2009,Tyler Shipman was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of eighteen. Synovial Sarcoma  is a very rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer.

Tyler, a self-professed "Fierohead", had a love for the Pontiac Fiero. Owning a 1986 Fiero GT, he loved to drive it everywhere. He was slowly working on fixing the car up.

With Tyler's diagnosis, he realized he was out of time, and reached out to the Pontiac Fiero community on www.fiero.nl. His post caused a wave in the online community, and help followed shortly thereafter when a solder in Iraq saw his plea and started a new project thread .

The Tyler Project  was born. Three weeks after Tyler's request, 24 people from all over the US arrived in Frazee, MN to work on Tyler's car.

23 hours later, and Tyler's car was revealed to him amidst a crowd of people.

Tyler passed away the following February on Valentine's Day, surrounded by his family and friends.

In July of 2010, the Minnesota Fieros Forever  club held a car show in downtown Frazee to celebrate Tyler's life.
$1600 was raised for cancer research with 102 cars arriving for the show.

The Shipman family opened their home to the community and offered camping space for anyone coming up for the show.

That was year one, and a new tradition was born.

Camp Shipman opens its doors every year for people to come camping for the show.
It is a weekend of fun and relaxation, family and friends.

It is now 2015, and the 6th Annual Tyler Shipman Memorial Car Show, and Camp Shipman has come and gone.

The Shipman family home continues to be a destination for people from all over the globe, with people from Australia, Puerto Rico, and beyond having attended.

All proceeds raised from the show and various activities at Camp Shipman are placed into the Tyler Shipman Memorial Scholarship fund, and scholarships are granted to local high school students on their way to college.

What is amazing about this family is that the loss of Tyler did not slow them down any.

Daneele has become a community leader, helping to organize many of the town's events surrounding their yearly city festival, Turkey Days.

The entire family has jumped feet first into the Fiero car community, now owning multiple Fieros, and they have also taken over all planning and organization for the Tyler Shipman Memorial Car Show, a yearly event that continues to raise money for the local scholarship.

And yet, the previous paragraphs barely scratch the surface of what the Shipman family is, and tragedy does not define them as the closeknit and loving family that they are.

They are selfless and caring, asking nothing for themselves, and giving all they are to their community, family and friends. They are hard working and well loved among those who know them.

This brings us to the reason for this GoFundMe page...

The Shipman's well is in dire need of replacement.
The casing has collapsed, and the well is currently drawing unclean water.

A replacement well is approximately five-thousand dollars, and includes everything needed to get their water system back to where it should be.

On top of that, the Shipman family feeds dozens of people during the Camp Shipman weekend, and their low water pressure and old dishwasher make it difficult to keep up with all of the food preparations.

Our goal is to fund a new well, to be installed by Elsner Well Drilling
The quote received was for a total of $4,960 dollars for the well, and the GoFundMe amount being requested is a little higher to cover any unplanned costs in the process.

Additional funds will go toward providing a new, quality dishwasher for the family that works. The old one does not clean the dishes, and requires that any dishes put in for cleaning be handwashed, or else none of them come out clean.

Finally, with the age of the home, the bathroom is in need of some pretty large repairs.
There are sections of floor that are in need of replacement due to soft spots, and the bathroom in general could use a basic revamp, including some plumbing and electrical work.
Any funds donated above and beyond the cost of the well and dishwasher will be directed toward the bathroom and given directly to the family.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

The Shipman family has experienced a devastating loss, yet has opened their home and hearts to a group of strangers and gained a much larger family in the process.

Edit: The cat is out of the bag. The well is being funded by an open ended no interest loan by a donor, with donations here going to pay the loan off up to the amount of installation.
