Community of Hope is a recently established grass roots community group operating out of Logan City and Rocklea in Brisbane.
Our group was founded out of our fierce opposition to the current policies of the Australian Government in relation to the treatment, mandatory detention of Asylum Seekers / Refugees with the blatant attempt to dehumanise an issue that that has for some time brought about much pain and sorrow for those whose only crime is to flee persecution and dream of a better life for their families.
Our aim is to provide practical and heart-warming friendship support to asylum seekers and refugees in suburbs across Brisbane. We are in the very early stage of start-up and currently help families on a family by family basis. After working for just a short time with these families we found a shared love of football and our Community of Hope Lions were founded. The futsal games are becoming a welcome respite to have fun, exercise and make new friends. One wife commented on how much happier her husband has become after joining the team.
Dads will always put their families first, but we believe that healthy happy Dads and Brothers create and inspire happy healthy families. Therefore, the flow on effects are of their happiness are obvious and we wholeheartedly wish for the team to continue playing a sport they loved, giving these men a connection to themselves, their culture and for many their first and now current home of Australia.
The team, made up of men from Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan made their debut just few short weeks ago, a feat made possible through the generosity of South Brisbane Futsal League.
We at Community of Hope, believe the Community of Hope Lions futsal team would be a worthy candidate because in one life changing gift you will benefit not just one life but that of 10 very grateful men. The impact on these men’s lives in just a few weeks has been incredible.
We believe our Community Of Hope Lions futsal team are worthy recipients of your kind help because in one life-changing gift you will benefit not just one life, but that of 10 other very grateful men.
Thankyou for your kind consideration of our request and we appreciate and welcome any support to help our team play on long into the future.
We are rasing funds for the following items:
Our own uniforms, boots for those who are still without them, a bag of balls and a kit bag, help with game fees for at least two season to help establish our team. Any remainging funds after these purchase will be used for a Brisbane wide Asylum Seeker/Refugee Futsal toutnrmanet to be held mid year.
