Be a Camp Hero! Help us reach our goal of $2,500 by November 8th to send 10 kids to Camp Fire Summer Camp in 2015!
Your donation will allow economically disadvantaged, at-risk kids in central Texas to have the experience of a lifetime: a week of summer camp! And not just any camp, we’re talking about Camp Fire Summer Camp, a unique urban nature and science experience. Any amount given will go directly to provide scholarships for kids who would not otherwise have the chance to go to camp at all. The need for summer learning experiences is particularly high in these children, who suffer year after year from summer learning loss. For every $250 raised, one or more kids are able to exchange a week of losing ground for a week of interactive fun, exploration and learning in the natural world.
Each week of summer camp is not only fun, but also based on a science theme such as “Patterns in Nature” or “Nocturnal Animals”. In addition to fun and healthy summer camp experiences like swimming, hiking and kayaking, each week includes field trips to nature and science sites and activities right in our own neighborhoods. With experiences like these, instead of starting the new school year having lost much of what was learned the year before, our campers are instead enthusiastic and ready to learn.
On November 8th Camp Fire Central Texas is hosting the third annual “Camp Fire Nature Celebration” (Check out the event webpage here). This event, which is free and open to the public, will introduce kids and families to the outdoors and provide an introduction to the many kinds of activities kids experience at summer camp. Our goal is to raise $2,500 to send at least 10 kids to camp. With support from friends like you, Camp Fire has engaged over 8,000 children in the past four years, and with your continued support, we will reach out to even more children as we move forward.
