CATS: Building for Our Future

CATS (Creative Arts Theatre & School), a nonprofit organization, was founded 1978 with a mission to develop the potential of young people from diverse backgrounds through performing arts training and performance opportunities. CATS is devoted to training, enriching and inspiring all youth by igniting within them an enduring passion for the arts. CATS is unique to Arlington, and has just begun to see its third generation of young people signing up for classes in acting, musical theatre, improv and dance. CATS teaches young people performing arts skills, but more importantly, it teaches them life skills that will benefit them far past any performance on a stage. Countless studies, articles and educators detail how important it is for our kids to build self-esteem, confidence and grit. CATS provides a place for Arlington’s youth to experience the thrill of success as well as the necessary agony of failing in a safe and creative atmosphere . A long-time CATS student-turned-teacher commented, they “are taught self-esteem, confidence, responsibility, and how to work with other people towards a common goal in a positive way.”
Not only do the kids benefit, but the Arlington community does as well. CATS has two youth touring companies which perform at various events, impressing audiences all across Arlington. In short, CATS is truly a great program, but it needs your help to keep thriving.
CATS has been a staple of the community since 1978, but in July of 2012, a fire destroyed its long-time home of over 30 years. Since then, CATS has leased a building in Downtown Arlington. Unfortunately, the current space has become economically unfeasible, and CATS must vacate the building by August 31, 2015. CATS needs to secure new space for our organization, and that’s why we’ve launched our “Building for Our Future” fundraising campaign. We have a plan, and we need your help to implement it. Our fall schedule and location will be announced shortly!
With your help of a tax-deductible donation of $100, $1000, $5000 or an amount of your choosing today, CATS hopes to secure its successful future by securing a new home for our organization. With your help on this fundraising campaign, together we can ensure that CATS continues to teach acting, dancing, musical theater, improv, playwriting and more for the Arlington youth for years to come.
