Biking For Nepal

Donation protected
In January of this year four friends met and forged a deep friendship in Nepal- Ben, Andrea, Josh and Brendan. Our journey together began on the Langtang Trek through the steep valleys of the Himalayas and beyond. The four of us spent a couple months exploring Nepal and fell in love with its natural, cultural and historic beauty. The rich heritage of Nepal has left an imprint on our hearts as it has for many before us.

The April 25th earthquake followed by recurring tremors and subsequent quakes has devastated the country. The death toll has reached 8,000 and continues to rise. The guest houses in the Langtang villages we once trekked through have been reduced to rubble, and Nepalese citizens such as our own guide have been forced to live in tents. Please don’t underestimate the severity of this situation: Nepal is in desperate need.

Fortunately, the four of us left Nepal a few weeks before the earthquake struck; however, we formed friendships with locals and travelers, whose lives were altered from the tragic event.  Having touched us in such a profound way, we have decided to start a campaign to raise funds for the people of Nepal, as we start off on our next journey.

Starting in Istanbul, the four of us will be cycling more than 5000km across all of Europe in honor of the victims affected by this horrible disaster.

Your contributions will go to Rebuilding Nepal, an organization which has committed its funds to rebuilding the Patalekhet community, a village located 42 km from Kathmandu.  Over 500 homes have been damaged in this community of 4300 people.  Because it’s a smaller village, they have not received much support.  Rebuilding Nepal was founded by Lucy Bowen in response to the recent tragedy.  She happened to be in Nepal on her motorbike when the earthquake hit and immediately started receiving funds to help villages that were not yet receiving aid.  Lucy's committment to rebuilding and making Patalekhet sustainable is as deep as her love for the country. She is our trusted friend.

As we embark on the next leg of our journey cycling, we will keep the people of Nepal in our minds and our hearts.  The progress of Rebuilding Nepal will be shared on https://www.facebook.com/RebuildingNepalCommunities?fref=ts, and our journey will be shared through pictures and stories with updates on this blog.

We hope that you will join us in the movement to rebuild Nepal and we thank you for your generosity.
