My name is Joyce Clavon and I am humbly requesting your assistance for a dire reason. I have been happily married to my husband, Alvin Clavon, for 33 years. Within that time, like everyone else, we have seen lots of ups and downs. For the most part though, we are happy, healthy people.
DIAGNOSIS
Unfortunately, in March 2016, Alvin was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is cancer of the blood. It is a type of cancer that cannot be cured, but with treatment it can be maintained. He began to experience issues with his vocal chords, difficulty speaking, extreme weight loss (195 lbs to 145 lbs within a few a months), loss of appetite, and the list goes on.
DIRE CONSEQUENCES
One of the many side effects of the chemotherapy was a drastic drop in his heart rate. This is obviously of great concern. Soon, he will wear an external heart monitor that will inform the doctors what is going on and how to properly address it.
This particular chemotherapy also left him with an extreme case of neuropathy. If you are not aware, neuropathy inflicts intense and relentless pain wherever it chooses in the body. My husband has this issue concentrated in both his feet.
THERAPEUTIC ATTEMPTS
We have tried multiple therapies such as massaging with essential oils several times daily, heat lamp stimulation, leg compression and feet wraps, and a series of painful injections that did absolutely nothing. All of these methods proved to be short-lived relief. This type of constant pain robs Alvin of rest, let alone a full night of sound sleep. Many, many nights he has slept for only a few hours because the pain keeps him awake.
WITHOUT RESOLVE
Throughout this process. Alvin has been given heavy prescription pain medication to alleviate the pain but without resolve. My husband is not one for medicating and even so, it does not help.
This is why I have set up this GoFundMe campaign.
HOPE
There is a new treatment that has been developed using physical therapy, which is specific to treating neuropathy, but payment for the process has yet to be approved by insurance companies.
EVALUATION
My husband, Alvin had his first evaluation for the treatment and to our surprise, he had no pain for 8 consecutive hours! That was the first time in over a year that Alvin had been without pain. That is such a long period of time to be in constant pain.
MORE HOPE
I have observed significant results in his ability to walk, stand, smile through the pain, and courageously engage in everyday life as best he can. But each day is different, accompanied with its challenges. Alvin continues to push through because he knows no other way.
A CHANGE IS COMING!
This treatment comes with a hefty price tag of $60,000, but because it is a pilot (new) treatment, the hospital is allowing us to pay only a fraction of the cost ($15.000).
We have witnessed the tremendous change that this treatment can offer him, and we are encouraged.
ASKING THROUGH FAITH
That said, we are humbly asking for your assistance so that Alvin can begin the treatment process. We believe that through faith, accompanied with the necessary medical care from an excellent medical staff, this process can begin and progress with dynamic results.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE
What is unfortunate is we were informed that it could be 2 to 3 years before the insurance company will even take into consideration, paying for the treatment.
HE NEEDS RELIEF ASAP
With much agony, heartache, and feelings of helplessness day and night, I have watched my husband try to live as normal as possible with this intense and unbearable pain in his feet, yet the body and soul needs peace without the pain.
LIMITATIONS
As senior citizens on a fixed income, we are truly limited in what we can and cannot do, especially with the present state of our economy and the healthcare system being in such disarray.
