'17 Spring Developement Camp & Boat

Donation protected
My name is Aidan. I am a 15-year-old kayaker at the Carleton Place Canoe Club. I have aspirations of making it to Florida this spring for a training camp so I can compete with the best paddlers in the country.

In order to achieve my goals of becoming one of the nation’s best athletes, I have  registered  with a select number of athletes  to participate in a spring training camp in Homosassa, Florida. The Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Affiliation (OCSRA) Spring Training camp will be held for 3 weeks in March and April 2017.

I currently am training 3 mornings a week from 6 - 7:30 AM, 4 days a week from 3- 5:00PM and Saturdays from 9 AM- 11:00. This training consists of paddling on the water, which can be up to 80 kms per week. I also run, lift weights and do circuits and will be skate skiing when snow finally arrives. I am doing this in preparation for the upcoming season.

In order that I can maximize my opportunity, there are 2 things that would not only prepare me but set me up for the 2017 season. Firstly, the Florida training, which will cost approximately $4,200 and the second thing that would improve my chances, is to purchase a kayak. New kayaks can sell for over $5,000 but I can purchase a used kayak for around $3,500. This is the type Kayak that would help me suceed.

At present I am using the kayak of my coach, which has helped me in the last part of the 2016 season.

I would like to share with you my accomplishments from the 2016 season

This year was amazing considering it was my first year of racing. Eastern Ontario Championships I won 1st place for my age group and 3rd place for u16. At Ontario Championships, I placed 2nd for my age group and 9th in u16. Finally, at National Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia I came 25th in u16 and 4th for my age group in the country. Overall this season was an amazing season. Having an opportunity to go to Florida for this training camp could put me in contention for being one of the top athletes in the country.

I would require these funds before March of 2017 which will solidify my spot in the spring training camp as well as allow me to purchase a kayak during those sessions. I feel that this training will help me in the upcoming season and provide me with a competitive edge against others in my age group. My goal for 2017 is to make Team Ontario and Team Canada.

Any donations would be gracefully accepted and will go a long way to helping me achieve my goals.

Thank you in advance for supporting me.
