Thank you to everyone that made a contribution to my little moving fund. I was able to make enough through the site and offline that I think I'll be able to make this work.
My plan is to work my ass off once I get to California and pay back everyone that tossed in by the end of the year.
I'm shutting this down at the end of the week after the payout posts. I know there's a lot of stupid fundraisers online (potato salad, anyone?) but there's also a lot of good causes that are far more worthy of your money.
If you'd like to rack up some good karma, I suggest donating to the Pat Tillman Foundation. He's a hero of mine. You can find the foundation's website here:
I just want to make this very very clear that this is simply an outlet for all the people that contacted me asking for a way to help me.
There's people that don't like me. Some fun commentators on a few of the articles about this effort have made that abundantly clear.
But there are a lot of people that feel bad for my situation and would like to give me a hand making my next move.
That's why I created this. If someone wants to help, I'm not going to stop them. If they don't, that's fine, too....as I've said in every interview I've done that this was my fault and I'm dealing with the consequences.
Thank you to all my supporters. And again my deepest apologies to all the haters.
Sometimes it takes a ridiculous solution to get out of a ridiculous situation.
For those of you not familiar with me...my name is Justin Kraemer. You probably saw me on YouTube a few months ago.
Google "Justin Kraemer" and it's pretty easy to find.
My enthusiasm to call it a day coupled with a salty vernacular and a technical glitch led to international headlines and the loss of two jobs in the week before Christmas.
For all my friends and family that were hoping and praying I would make a risky and bold move, you'll like this.
I am moving to Hollywood.
It’s a life long dream. I’m in a unique opportunity to pursue it.
At the time, hundreds of people from all over the world offered to help.
This fund is your chance.
GoFundMe.com is a site used by a lot of people for fundraisers - the last one to make news was the “hot” felon who’s “Blue Steel” mugshot glare earned him over $5,000 for bail money.
There’s a lot of legitimate causes on there coupled with some fairly foolish fundraisers. I am fully aware that mine falls into the later category.
Do I deserve your help? No. Not really. My career going up in flames was pretty much entirely my fault. But this is America, dammit! Handing money to people for silly reasons is part of what makes this nation the greatest on Earth.
If this works, it would infuriate some truly evil people in broadcasting. Who am I to prevent you from the joy you may feel by sticking it to The Man with a donation? I’m no communist. I believe in the free market. I love this country too much to get in the way of you giving me undeserved cash.
And I need the help.
If it makes you feel better, I’m very embarrassed to be using a fundraiser as part of the move. But after a career in tv news, six months of unemployment, and no severance from my last employer, I’m pretty broke and am in no position to stop anyone who wants to help me.
I'm not looking to get wealthy off of this site.
The plan is to work some freelance gigs to pay the bills. But more importantly I’m going to hit the open mic circuit and try to make something happen. I have a unique voice. And a lot of fun stories to tell.
This is gamble to say the least but it’s also calculated. I truly believe I’ll be able to make this work.
I'll have more information coming soon about a blog for you to follow this adventure.
