I never thought I would have to be put in this sort of situation, but the circumstances have become desperate, and I have no where to turn, and I just hope this reaches people who might be able to make a difference and save my family from heartache.
My family has been blessed to have a wonderful dog, named Doug, for almost twelve years now. He’s an absolute sweetheart, and has such a personality. But that personality has been disappearing rapidly in the past three months and now he’s incapable of walking up the stairs by himself. He’s required to have someone with him at all times, as he’s a danger to himself.
Today, May 21st, Doug has officially lost all vision in his right eye and glaucoma has been confirmed to have spread to his left eye.
All this is due to the possible misdiagnosing of a vet, but that is neither here nor there. Because of his rapidly declining eye sight and continued misdiagnosis for three months, my family has had to spend over $2,000 on medical bills. As you can imagine, we can’t afford this and we’re at the end of our rope.
After visiting a eye specialist today, we discovered the session would cost $475, in addition to the four prescriptions we need filled to help my dog not lose his other eye. If the glaucoma does not get better, we may need to perform surgery to remove his eye, which is money we don’t have. There may be underlying medical problems that he’s currently being tested for, and if they turn up positive, it would mean possible surgery or more medications.
The last thing we want is for my dog to suffer.
He’s still eating normally, and does his business outside without accidents inside. He’s fine, if terrified of running into things. Putting him to sleep would be cruel at this point, but we don’t have the money to continue aiding him medically.
Please, I’m begging anyone and everyone, I don’t want to lose my dog because we don’t have the money to take care of him, when there’s nothing wrong with him that would normally call for a dog to be put down to save them from continued suffering. The medication we can’t afford could save him from being in pain, and even help reduce swelling and save his left eye.
Even if you don’t have the resources, please, help just by sharing this. Please. I don’t want to lose my dog.

A day after I began a campaign to save my dog, Doug lost all vision in his remaining eye. Help came too late to save his sight, unfortunately. Although we were given an estimate of a few weeks before he went blind (at best), it all happened abruptly and so much faster than anyone - even the doctor - could have predicted.
The dog that use to love running around the house after our cat, and going up and down the stairs by himself - jumping on the bed and couch and coming to us for his favorite snacks... is now afraid whenever someone goes to pick him up. We have to carry him places, and all he's able to do now is rest, as its too stressful for him to try navigating the house alone without bumping his nose and head into various pieces of furniture.
Doug is still eating healthily, and drinking water. He's able to do his business outside. There is no reason for him to be put to sleep. Despite the loss of his vision, Doug is still on a heavy regulation of medication around the clock to assist with the pain that goes along with the glaucoma. At this point, there are several surgical options we are able to take, but these options are $700 to $1000, for each eye. While we're trying to support Doug the best we can, your support is a blessing. The money that's been raised has gone to Doug's medication.
