Raising donations for North Koreans
To improve the awareness about North Korea
I acknowledge that North Korea is in the headlines often and many people around the world including Americans’ perceptions about North Koreans are negative. The heinous dictator disregards the rights of his citizens. Most North Koreans live impoverished lives and many die from hunger. They suffer from extreme poverty, their GDP per capita reaches $854(USD), but the government continues to demonstrate an incessant interest in investing their budget on its national defense, not in saving its people’s lives.
As a South Korean, who is a brother of North Koreans, I am going to increase the awareness of the plight of North Koreans by not only raising donations in the United States, but also improving Americans’ awareness about the struggles within North Korea. I am planning to cycle coast to coast from Los Angles to New York with a brief stopover in Toronto. The departure date is May 12th 2014.
Your donation will help to supply rice for North Koreans. The donation fee is 1cent per mile and the total amount of miles is estimated more or less 3500 miles.($35 in total) Your donation will directly go to Save the Children and tracking your donation will be available after the cycling trip has been completed. 북한에 대한 인식고취를 위해
북한에 관한 소식이 언론을 통해 자주 보도되고 있는 현재, 미국인을 포함한 전 세계의 많은 사람의 북한 시민들에 대한 인식은 부정적입니다. 3대 정권의 잔인한 독재자는 국민들의 기본적인 권리를 침해하고 있습니다. 북한 시민 1인당 GDP는 미화 854달러에 이르는 극도의 빈곤상태에 있으나 정부는 빈곤문제를 해결하기 위한 노력은커녕 정부 예산의 상당액을 군비로 지출하는데 끊임없는 관심을 보이고 있습니다.
따라서 북한의 형제나라인 대한민국 국민으로서 저는, 북한의 궁핍한 현실을 개선하는데 작게나마 보탬이 되고자 합니다. 첫째로는 21세기 사회에서 악의 축(axis of evil)으로 불리는 북한에 대한 미국인들의 인식을 개선하는 데 노력할 계획입니다. 북한이 현재 위치에 있기까지의 근본적인 원인은 주민 전체가 아닌 정부의 잔인한 행태 때문임을 정확하게 설명하고, 둘째로는 미국에서 기부금을 조성하여 북한 주민들에게 쌀을 제공할 수 있도록 도움의 손길을 요청하고자 합니다. (2014년 5월 12일을 시작으로 자전거 길에 올라 LA(Los Angeles)에서 토론토(Toronto)를 거쳐 뉴욕(NY)까지 대륙횡단을 하려고 합니다)
기부금액은 1마일당 1센트이며 전체 여정은 3,500마일 내외가 될 것으로 예상합니다. (총 미화 35달러) 여러분의 소중한 기부금은 북한주민들에게 쌀을 지원하는 데 사용될 것이며, 모든 기부금은 대륙횡단이 완료된 후 세이브더칠드런(Save the Children) 재단으로 전달될 것입니다. 기부금 전달과정확인 또한 대륙횡단이 완료된 후 가능합니다. 감사합니다.
