Telluride GrowDome Girls (aka "Brownies to Broccoli") - Telluride's first-ever Destination Imagination Service Learning team, needs our help to get to Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee! The Girls are Olia Berry, Macy Desmarais, Sydney Evans ,Lexie Gardner, Soleil Gaylord, andJoey Hunt.
Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. In working to solve the Challenges, teams learn important life skills (e.g., time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking.) While many educational programs focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Destination Imagination also focuses on Arts and Service learning (STEAMS).
Our Brownies to Broccoli team's mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle and educate students on how to make healthy eating choices. They competed at the state DI competition on April 12th and placed 2nd Qualifying them for the Global DI Finals in Knoxville, TN. The team also received the Torch Bearer award which is given to the team with the most innovative and far reaching project that is most like likely to have a profound influence on the greatest number of people. The team has been teaching classes to all grade levels in the grow dome behind the Middle/High School.
The team is fundraising for their trip May 21-24, and welcome any support. (Total estimated cost for the 6 girls is $9000.)
