Scrap Metal Recycling Business

I am trying to raise money to get myself started with a "scrapping" business.
"But Matt, what exactly IS scrapping and why do you need money to do it?" I'm glad you asked, hypothetical internet user. Scrapping is a term used for aquiring unwanted scrap metal and selling it to a scrapyard. A lot of times, unwanted things like appliances, construction debris, electronics, etc. get tossed in a dumpster and go to a landfill. A scrapper will acquire these items and sell them for their components. This is a win/win situation since an entrepreneur (like yours truly) can make some money on the side and it promotes recycling.
"Hey Matt, is there REALLY enough demand for scrap metal to make a business out of it?"
Why, yes there is! Stuff like steel and iron is not worth much but there is a lot out there. This is where the bulk of scrap metal comes from. Other metals and alloys are worth more, but less abundant. Check it - Copper is worth anywhere between $2 and $4 a pound. Wow! Why is that? Refining copper ore to make "new" copper is an expensive and energy consuming process. It is much cheaper and much greener to use existing copper (as well as other metals) to make new 'stuff.' This is recycling in action
The trouble is, a lot of scrap is large and/or heavy and requires a truck to go and retrieve it and bring loads to the scrapyard (FOR CASH MONEY!!!). I do not have a truck and gas is also expensive. If I had a truck, this would allow me to pick up larger items and make fewer runs to a scrap yard yet carry more scrap, thus decreasing fuel consumption. All of this loops back to a "greener" business!
- A utility trailer, $500 to $1000. This would effectively double the hauling capacity and provide a low loading area for heavy items. Utility trailers also usually have some sort of ramp/gate combo.
- Tools. Various costs. I would need a drill/screwgun for dismantling scrap furniture and appliances, a boltcutter for rusted/stripped items and to cut small pipes, and a circular saw with metal-cutting blades in order to cut scrap into manageable pieces.
- A GPS. A reliable GPS will be necessary to find addresses.
- Fuel. Remainder. The remainder of my funding goal will be used to purchase fuel cards to help reduce the initial overhead operating costs.
So there it is. I'm really excited about this opportunity. it will help me stay active, help support my family financially and help promote recycling and being green. It's a win for everyone. So please help me out and fund my goal :) Thanks in advance!
