Blue Caboose Fund

Donation protected
The Stewartstown Railroad is about to receive a gift of a former Union Pacific Railroad caboose from a private donor. However, the caboose is located on panel track in Baltimore, Maryland and must be moved by truck and flatbed trailer to its rail yard in Stewartstown, PA. This move, along with associated loading/unloading costs, is estimated to cost about $14,000. The Friends of the Stewartstown Railroad, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization has raised half of this amount to help the railroad defray these costs. The Friends organization is now trying to raise the balance.
Cabooses were once a familiar site at the end of freight trains across the USA, providing a "home away from home" for train crews and an office for freight conductors to monitor various statistics regarding the movement of a train. With the advent of smaller train crews, larger locomotive cabs capable of accommodating more crew members, and technology allowing an electronic device mounted on the last car of a train capable of monitoring a train's "vital statistics" these cars have just about disappeared from the American railroad scene.
Won't you help us preserve an iconic artifact of American railroad history?
Thank you for your help!
