Help Wayne Get His Bike, Van and Trailer

Donation protected
As many of you know we originally all set out to raise money in order to purchase Wayne a new bike after his was stolen from his uncle’s home in late April. Since then, the bike has been recovered, but it was destroyed pretty badly and will not be suitable for Wayne to ride anymore. I quickly turned to my Facebook family and friends and asked for everyone to come together to help this boy who already has dealt with so much at such a young age. The response was amazing and in less than 72 hours you raised over $8,000.

The quote for the bike is being drawn up. Once we get the quote we will make the purchase and then the long process of altering it to fit Wayne’s needs comes into play. I’ve been in contact with numerous people throughout this entire process including Wayne’s mother, Donna Thompson who has been very cooperative. As I spoke to her last week we began talking about the situation at home and where the bike would be stored in order to ensure this type of issue never happened again. She explained that the bike had been stored at his uncles home because they were unable to use the garage because the landlords’ items had been stored there. Since then that problem has been rectified.

This brings us to problem # 2, for many of you who have not driven on some of the roads in Providence, there are potholes, speed bumps, fast moving traffic and a host of other obstacles that just wouldn’t provide optimal riding conditions for Wayne. Since the bike is so big and heavy, it is impossible to move from place to place without a lot of work from several people. After hearing this, I vowed to not only get Wayne his new bike but I also committed to getting Donna a reliable Van that will be handicap accessible for Wayne to get around and also a trailer to allow them to take the bike wherever they want to ride.

I understand that you guys have given so much already and even if money isn’t an option just please help spread the word on this so we may get together as a family this summer and present these wonderful gifts to a family in need. The kindness you’ve all displayed already has been amazing. Let’s get to the finish line together!

Thanks,
John “Jay” Oliver
