Extra costs of studying abroad

Hi everybody! As some of you may already know, I will be studying abroad on Semester at Sea in the Spring of 2015. This particular voyage goes to 15 cities in 12 different countries which includes South Africa, India and China. Each course I take has a "field lab" where the whole class gets off at a port that the teacher chooses, and we see first-hand what we are learning about in class. Also, after reading blogs from previous voyages, I know I want to travel to the Great Wall of China, visit an orphanage in Burma, go on a safari in South Africa, and visit an orphanage in Vietnam, to name a few.  

I have been lucky enough to gather up enough money to go on this voyage from kind donations, scholarships, and of course my amazing parents, but there are some extra hidden costs like voyage fuel (about $750 per person), textbooks, and I also need to buy a good camera to document this experience!
