Help me get a car for nursing school

Our car recently broke down, thankfully we are able to borrow a car from my father-in-law but it is a boat and gets about 12 miles to the gallon! I am a full time nursing student in the RN program and have classes and clinical rotations four days a week. I am halfway done with the program.

My husband works, but makes just enough money to be not eligible for any assistance, but still barely have enough for rent, groceries, electric, etc. now that our gas expenses are tripled we have no way to save for a car, let alone get clothes or anything for our five year old who is growing taller by the minute! A new car would allow us to save money on gas and repairs and spend our paycheck on bills and clothes that Taylor needs so badly, as well let me focus on finishing the last few semesters of nursing school without stressing over how to buy milk! So ultimately we can make a better life for ourselves. Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

Any money we make with your help will go towards a new car purchace, or in the event that our old car can be fixed for less than the amount of a new(used) car, we will get it repaired. It is a blown head gasket as far as we know, though we will know more about how much it will be to get it fixed when we have about $150 to get it towed and diagnosed properly.
