Asylum for Aderonke Campaign Funds

Donation protected

We are raising funds to cover expenses of immediate events for Aderonke's campaign for asylum in the UK.

Aderonke Apata is a lesbian woman from Nigeria who fled homophobic persecution to seek asylum in the UK. She has been in the UK for 10 years and finally her case is going to be up for judicial review once all the relevant documentation has been submitted over the coming week. The upcoming events and actions for the campaign are crucial and we need some helping in funding them.

[Please see her petition page for more information about her case and like her Facebook page to be updated on the campaign]

Firstly, all the documents relating to her case (petition, interviews, videos etc.) need to be printed/burned to disc to be submitted to the High Court in mid-April. Aderonke's petition alone has an amazing 24,000 signatures, which roughly translates to 650 pages, which needs to be printed once for court and two extra times for two demonstrations that will be happening in London and Liverpool to hand over the petition to the Home Office, so you can already imagine how much that will cost!

Additionally we aim to provide transport for those who wish to come to the demonstrations but cannot afford it (such as fellow asylum seekers) in the form of a minibus and public transport. We also need the funds to cover the minibus hire, petrol and any ticket costs.

Finally, any other expenses arising from the campaign need to be covered such as printing leaflets to hand out at the demonstrations on the day to explain Aderonke's campaign and banner/sign-making material, because what's a demonstration without colourful material?

Any extra money raised will be collected and added to the pot for the newly created Manchester Migrant Solidarity so that they can fund similar campaigns for other asylum seeker plus other activities and events we aim to put on in the future.

Even the smallest amount will help towards making this campaign even more of a success, hopefully resulting in Aderonke being granted refugee status. Please share with friends and family too!

Many thanks,

Kat
