Volunteer trip to Kenya with CTC

Don protégé
Hello All! My name is Avery Laluk, I am a freshman at the University of Kansas and I have a passion for helping people. I have been going on mission trips every year since 7th grade.

My first mission trip was to Springfield, Missouri, where I worked with my peers to build an amazing deck for a lady who needed a wheel chair ramp. We took out the two cobblestone steps and went to work on one of the most amazing decks I had ever seen. It felt amazing to see how happy she was and how we made her life that much easier. This motivated me to continue through middle school and highschool to do some amazing things.

One year we went to the Heifer Ranch where we volunteered and helped take care of animals and worked where ever we could. The goal of Heifer was to help end World Hunger and Poverty around the world.

Another year we went to South Dakota where we volunteered on a Native American Reservation. While there we helped repair a roof on a church and worked in the local shops.

One of the mission trips I went on we helped put in new windows on a home that needed it.

And this past year we went to Chicago, Illinois where we worked in food banks and food kitchens to help serve the community that was in need. We also worked with children in an after school program, which was a life changing experience for me. I learned so much from these kids and to see how eager they were to learn, it made me want to become a teach my self. So now my focus at the University of Kansas will be the School of Education.

Im proud to say mission trips have made me the person I am today, and I want to continue to do more as I go through college. I have now been given the opportunity to go to Kenya with a group from KU and it is really exciting, but I need your help in order to go!

I am excited to let you know that in July of 2014 I will be traveling with WesleyKU, the United Methodist Campus Ministry at the University of Kansas, for a mission trip to Maai Mahiu, Kenya. Maai Mahiu is a small community approximately ninety minutes from Nairobi. In most instances, the people of Maai Mahiu lack the basic necessities we often take for granted. I will work with Comfort the Children International, which is an Austin, Texas based non-profit that works to better the lives of the people of Maai Mahiu. I will participate in programs directed at children with special needs, work in community gardens, help build structures, and put on soccer camps for kids. What's more, I will spend time with the people of Maai Mahiu and hear their stories.
I am currently in my Freshman year at KU, and am very active in WesleyKU. The total cost of the trip is approximately $4,000, which will cover my travel, food, and lodging for two weeks. .
I would be grateful for your prayers and the prayers of the church during the weeks of July 14th-28th
Blessings in Christ"”
