Daren and Jennie Turner and their two children Emma and Tate have been dealt a rough hand over the last year. First, their beautiful daughter Emma was born three months prematurely. They almost lost her in the beginning and spent the next three months in the NICU at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT. Though Emma is continuing to make strides in her development, the medical bills associated with her birth and medical care are an ongoing stress.
Now Jennie, the wonderful mother of two and a caring and loving nurse, has been diagnosed with cancer. She is in her second round of chemo at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT. While hopes are high for her recovery, the medical bills are compounding on top of what they already had in association with Emma.
Daren has been a member of the Wildland Firefighting community for almost twenty years. He worked his way up on an Engine with the Forest Service in Logan, UT and then went on to become a Fuels Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management and now back to the Forest Service in Salt Lake City, UT as the Fuels Specialist for the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. He is a Division Supervisor on Great Basin Type II team 4.
They had to sell their house in Tooele, UT and move in with Jennie's parents in Ogden so they could help take care of Jennie when sick and Emma who is still only a baby. On top of everything else, Daren is now driving a long commute to maintain his job with the Forest Service in Salt Lake City.
If you know these two you know they are THE SALT OF THE EARTH kind of people. They would both give you the shirt off their back. If you have ever worked with Daren in Fire you know he is always looking out for his people and always goes out of his way to help those working for and around him. You cannot find two better people in this world.
