Can I Live Rally Pupose

The first annual Can I Live Rally was implemented on the campus of Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, March 2010. The attendance ranged from: students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members of all ethinicities, cultures, race, religions, genders, and so forth. The first year there were 250 attendees, and this number has grown to an anticipated 700 attendess (possibly more). It has also spread from SIUC to Jackson State University. Within the next ten years it is projected that this will be held at over 100 more universities.

This event is designed to create unity by showcasing courage through performance. We are all different in many ways and must embrace our differences, but we all share similar stories and life experiences that unify all humanity. It is our aim, and our guest performers to facilitate an atmosphere of empowerment and purposeful uplift through the sharing of their stories of their pain and perseverance. This rally begins with an interactive march followed by a selection of performances (geared towards all forms of Art Therapy).

We know that this event can allow certain suppressed memories, emtions, and thoughts to surface, which is why we have support groups in attendance to offer info on services that can be used to deal with these issues. It is our hope that through these shared experiences, individuals will be encouraged to share their own stories and encourage others to seek assistance.

"As we let our own light shine, we give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others." ~Marianne Williamson
