The Whistler Refugee Response Group asks for your help in sponsoring a refugee family to come to Whistler.
The Syrian refugee crisis is arguably the largest humanitarian crisis of our generation. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 3 million people have fled to Syria's immediate neighbours; Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. 6.5 million people are internally displaced within Syria, half of those are children.
There are 25,481 refugees who have arrived in Canada or who have been approved but have not yet travelled to Canada. There are 5,305 refugee applications that have been finalized, but they have not yet travelled to Canada.
With the money we raise, we will be able to financially support a refugee family for one year. During this first year and beyond, we will further support the family through community integration, language training and employment assistance. If we raise above and beyond our goal, we will look to sponsor a second family or donate the remaining funds to another refugee family.

Please note that GoFundMe deducts a 5% fee from donations and WePay (the payment processing company) deducts 2.9%. We therefore receive 92.1% of your donation. For larger donations you may wish to consider donating via cheque. Cheques can be made payable to 'Our Lady of the Mountains' attention Syrian Refugee Fund. Envelopes containing cash or cheques can be dropped off (Monday - Friday 9am - 2pm) at the Catholic Church at 6299 Lorimer Road, Whistler BC, V0N 1B6 OR dropped off during the month of March 2016 (Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm) at the Resort Municipality of Whistler office at 4325 Blackcomb Way, Whistler BC. Please indicate your return mailing address.
