I am 26 years old and am trying to raise money for a service dog.
for the past 5 years I've struggled with severe and growing abuse related anxiety, depression, panic attacks and PTSD. Resulting from extensive child abuse, domestic abuse as well as a Car accident that has taken my physical independance away.
and as of two months ago, i fled my emotionaly abusive husband. since then, my support system quickly fell to a small handful of people
My conditions make basic social interactions difficult, and often have feelings of not being safe at any given time. my physical handicap makes me all but unable to leave my home without supervision, and often need assistance around my home as well.
the longer my conditions go un-aided the worse my Trauma gets, and the more my depression swalows me and the further i recoil from my friends and family.
A service dog would be able to help me greatly.
medication is only half the treatment.
It would be trained to physicaly help me in and out of my home, enabling me to not need a personal handler. would help me up and down stairs, in and out of bed and chairs, use his body to brace and catch my falls, retreive things for me i need like canes, bracers, or even assist dressing.
emotionaly would be able to recognize when im having a episode and remove me from the situations, and if he cant lead me away then he can use something called pressure therapy where he presses his body to me grounding me and giving me contact comfort. would recognize when im having a disasociative episode and would snap me back with physical stimuli. or wake me if im experiencing distress from my regular nightmares or sleep paralysis.
my anxiety makes it so im scared when im alone, i grow very paranoid and often fear that someone is breaking into my home. ill often triplecheck my house locks and windows because i am anxious. i will also see things that arent there and experience flashbacks more often when alone.
my triggers are loud noises like thunder. or voices, doors opening or shutting, real or cinematic realistic violence, being confronted in a argumentative manner, prolonged eye contact, agressive body language, people standing behind me, and many more. some episodes are entirely unprovoked as well.
Service dogs can be very expensive and resource consuming, but this is something that could wildly change my life for me, and give me peace of being, independance, a better quality of life and keep me safe even in the absence of a caretaker. so i am here making this fundraiser in order to make my goal a reality.
