My name is Maartje, 19 years old and I need desperately your help. I have a condition named Ehlers Danlos Syndromes. It means that my collagen in my body is not strong enough and it causes joints to go out of place. The problem is that collagen is in your whole body, organs, bloodvessels etc. I also had a lot of problems with my neck, the vertabraes were moving all over my neck. This caused a lot of pain and even one vertabrae pressed in my brainstem. Because in the Netherlands the knowledge about CCI (this is the name of the condition) is limited we had to go to Barcelona, dr. Gilete. He has lot of knowledge and operates a lot of EDS patients with CCI.
I needed the surgery because if I didn't the vertabrae could puncture my brainstem. We lent the money so I could get the surgery. After the surgery my symptoms improved and some even gone but my eyes were still very painfull. After a couple of tests dr. Gilete found the cause of my pain. My vein in my neck is compressed. It is a rare condition and I need surgery again. Because of the compression my intercranial hypertension (pressure in your brain) is to high which result in eyepain. After eyetests they discovered that my left eye is already damaged. So i have less vision in my left eye. To make the pressure in my head normal, they have to decompress my vein. So I need another surgery asap. But also this condition is not known in the Netherlands. We have seen a neurosurgeon here and he hasn't done any surgery on this. As dr. Gilete has seen it before and operated on it, with very positive outcome!
Yet again I need surgery which my parents can't afford. They are still in debt for my last surgery.
If I don't get this surgery I will be blind.
I desperately need your help, I really want to keep my eyesight. The last couple of months have been so tough, with the surgery and all. I am only 19 and most 19 year olds are having a life, social and work. I have none of those at the moment. My life is a rollercoaster that won't stop.
Please help me to raise the money for the surgery and to pay my parents so they can pay off the debt.
