Memphy's Surgery
**Edit**
Memphis made it through just fine! We are going to pick him up around 5pm Central Time today. They told us that his gums were so swollen and sore that they couldn't suture them, so we have to get him soft food again. Hopefully he will eat the new ones we get.
The total bill came to $569, plus the $95 for the initial exam, so $700 is still a realistic goal. Even though we can't cover the bill completely, as Lonnie's paycheck STILL has not come in, his mother decided to help us pay the rest. Thank you so much everyone who has helped us already!! You guys are the best and we couldn't have done this without you.
Our kitty cat, Memphis, needs surgery on his teeth. He needs all his back teeth removed and the gums stitched. One tooth has already been lost, causing him discomfort and making it difficult to eat. We have switched him from dry food to soft food, though after a few days he seems uninterested in it. He has gone back to eating the hard food, which we left out for him.
Last year we had taken Memphis in for an exam. He had been scratching at his ears and shaking his head. We found out he had ear mites and proceeded to give him ear drops to resolve the issue. But we also found out he has a lot of tartar build up on his back teeth and a few of them needed removed. Unfortunately, we did not have the funds to afford it at the time and he didn't seem to be in any pain, so we waited and kept an eye on him.
But then, just a couple weeks ago, I noticed he was drooling uncontrollably, and it was a brownish-red color.

We scheduled a vet appointment immediately, and now he is having surgery next Friday, March 14th 2014. The initial cost for the surgery and medication is $250, and an additional $400+ for the number of teeth that need pulled. The first exam was $95 and we have to bring him back for a follow-up in a couple weeks. We are still unsure of the exact amount this will all come to.
He drooled for a few days before we switched him to soft food. We assume this was caused by his lost tooth, and he was gumming his food.
Since switching him to soft food, he has not drooled at all, though he doesn't seem to want it
anymore. We were going to get different flavored food, but all of our bills were due and now we have barely enough money to survive the week until the next paycheck comes in this Friday. We are currently in the process of moving to a new home, which has sapped us of our funds. Everything hit yesterday, March 3rd, including a few charges that should not have, causing us to go negative in one account. We are fighting to get the money back, but it will take a few days.
We need help. We don't want our precious baby to be in pain anymore and we don't want to risk the problem getting worse. This couldn't have happened at a worse time, but it did and we can't wait any longer.
Please, friends and family, help us keep our precious family member with us. He is the only one to keep Victoria company when she is home alone all day and Lonnie is at work. Memphis is one of the sweetest cats we have ever met. He loves being pet, played with and cuddled. He's our buddy and we don't know what we would do without him.
Thank you all for your support through these troubled times.
~Victoria and Lonnie
