Every kid should be given the chance to read and learn. Thanks to the Head Start program, low-income children are provided with the tools to produce self-sufficiency and self-esteem. These tools allow the children to grow and be prepared for Kindergarten.
Some of the children in Head Start may not have the opportunities to excel before entering Kindergarten. Many of the students don't have parents who are educated themselves"”in fact, some parents learn along with the child.
Children in the Head Start Program are registered and receive Dolly Parton's Imagination Library books through the Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence (TFAE). The mission of TFAE is to establish a source of funding to provide additional financial resources to foster academic excellence in public education. TFAE is the local champion for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) in Terrebonne parish.
Stephanie Hebert Insurance Agency is assisting TFAE in this exciting literacy program to assure that every child who is registered will begin receiving books free of charge. More importantly, children are receiving the gift of education, and to read and dream.
There are currently 2,372 children receiving an age-appropriate book per month at a cost of $25 per child annually. By reaching our goal of $1000, we can provide 40 children, under the age of five, with a great gift.
