Dear Friends,
I am in Berlin right now and would like to ask for your help. As you know, majority of Syrian refugees consider Germany as their final destination. Many of them end up in Berlin. As the registration process is happening all the time and new refugees are coming every day, it is hard to give exact estimates how many children are around, but just by visiting some sites in the city, one can see thousands. These children don't have anything that belongs to them. They have fled their homes and had to leave everything. Their daily routine is hard to imagine. They have been traveling with their parents for months, their little feet hurt and they are tired. Away from home and everything they have known, those who finally reached Berlin are the lucky ones. Still, their journey is not over. While their parents stand in the line in efforts to register and be provided with some assistance, these kids need our attention and they need to be children again.
They need everything from nappies and milk to toys and cartoons. They need to laugh. While most efforts are directed towards immediate help in food and shelters, we must try to remind these kids what is an innocent childhood. This fundraiser is to collect money for children sitting in the parks of Berlin, to give them a bit of happiness, to get their smiles back. With a help of my friends here in Berlin, we will purchase necessary items (children's sleeping bags, winter clothes, winter boots, diapers and pull ups, but also some toys, music, games, books). Every cent spent will be accounted for and visible on my FB page.
