Nancy went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ today at 2:10. She was surrounded by people who loved and adored her, and she smiled slightly just before it happened. I know she is with her parents right now, telling them about our family and how we've grown and changed. Speaking for myself and probably the rest of my family, this is probably the hardest thing we've ever had to face. We stand strong together though, knowing we will all be together again one day. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the love and support you all have offered during this difficult time. Your continued prayers are needed and appreciated.
Update: Because of certain events the past few days, Nancy's condition has worsened. It is shocking and devastating to all because of the suddenness of this decline. Our family plans to travel to VA tomorrow to make important decisions regarding Nancy. Please pray for us, and kindly hold any unnecessary calls to Nancy's immediate family as tomorrow is going to be a very difficult day for all of us.
Via, Nancy's brother (Dad) just touched base with me approx a few hours ago. I'm sorry for delay in update, but I just got home from work a little bit ago.
Praise report! Nancy is currently stable and her vitals are okay. I certainly don't want to provide false hope because this is going to likely be a roller coaster ride of developments in her progress and recovery.
She was responsive to the stimulus and tests that the doctors and staff administered, in which shown brain activity. They will still monitor her neurological state and the staff seemed very positive that she would be fine from the lack of oxygen and the most recent occurrence that required CPR.
She is breathing on her own and the more permanent breathing tubes have been put in place in which will better aid in clearing those oxygen passages.
She is still in moderate sedation to provide comfort and they are fiercely attentive and working around the clock to monitor her vitals. Future surgeries have been temporarily put on hold until they continue to monitor and maintain stabilization.
Walt is okay despite the circumstances and is in the very good care of his daughter in VA.
Please continue to pray and give credit where credit is due because God certainly has provided and answered so many prayers already.
We thank you all for your outpouring love, concerns, generosity, and most importantly your prayers.
Nancy is being temporarily being brought out of deep sedation tomorrow afternoon to check for any brain damage from her breathing tube being dislodged. Please pray for her as it will be painful and scary to be more awake.
From walt's daughter:
A setback today. Nancys breathing tube dislodged during wound care. This caused her to need CPR for about 2 minutes as they replaced it with a trach. They had planned to do that today in the OR. They are treating her to prevent any brain trauma from the 1-2 mon with no BP although they do not seem concerned as it was so brief. However it will put her grafts off for 48 hours. She is right back to stable now. They don't anticipate this will change her treatment other than the delay. Will keep everyone posted if anything changes but no news is good news. Love to all.
Nancy is having another grafting surgery today. Keep her and the family in your prayers.
Update on Nancy:
She is still stable now. Her vitals up. The swelling in her face has went down a lot more.
She was more responsive today according to her daughter.
Infection is still high for weeks to come, so continued prayers for that.
It's going to be a long road for her but I know God is working it out! Many prayers have been answered already and we give God all the glory for his hand on this all.
Walt is okay and is in the very good care of his daughter who flew down from AK. We are blessed to have her here to help.
We all as a family stand strong in our faith and appreciate each and everyone of you and all your continued prayers.
We will continue to take donations for the next couple of months or for as long as there are people still giving, so please continue to spread the word. Most importantly, though, we need your prayers as we encounter much uncertainty along the way. You have all blessed us beyond belief, and we will look back at this one day grateful to be part of such an amazing community. I will keep posting updates on Nancy's condition as quickly as I receive them. God bless!
We have exceeded our goal! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed! You have gone above and beyond what any of us even thought possible! Words can't even express how much of an impact this has made in our family's life. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Nancy's recovery will be quickened just by the knowledge that she has such a strong support group. We are by no means stopping the fundraiser as Nancy and Walt have a long road ahead of them full of travel and expenses that will be ongoing. Know that you all are making a difference in the lives of many as we continue down this road.
Hey everyone, Nancy went into the OR at 10:45 and we should know how she is within 3 hours. Keep her an the surgeons in your prayers.
Right now all money we raise is going towards:
*Gas for Walt to travel between WV and VA
*Groceries and food for the family members staying near the hospital
*Bills that the family can't take care of right now
What you all have been doing is indescribably amazing! Thank you so much for supporting our family and helping with these immediate needs. The donations have made a huge impact already for some of the unforeseen bills that they need to pay in a couple of days. I don't know where we would be without you all. Thank you.
Latest update: Nancy is now stable enough to undergo surgery for skin grafts, which means they can now take care of most of the source of infection. The family was able to salvage a few photo albums and heirlooms from the house today. My dad, sister, husband, and I are traveling to Charlottesville tomorrow to see her after surgery. We pray that God will guide the hands of the surgeons and keep her safe. Thank you all for your prayer and support to our family!
Happy birthday, Nancy!!! I know this is a horrible way to spend your birthday, but we love you dearly and are all praying for a swift recovery!

Thank you so much for all the prayers, kind words, and donations. The outpouring of love and support means more to me than I could ever express. Very special thanks to my dear cousins Candi (Rose Roses) and Beth Keith for keeping FB updated for me. Family and friends are everything to me and I have the best! Please continue your prayers--Mom is still critical and even with the best outcome, we are looking at months at UVA and recovery. Thank you again!!
Just heard an update from my mom: Nancy's kidneys and heart are beginning to stabilize. Walt and the rest of the family are at UVA now.
Thank you so much Oliva! I know that the little dog will bring so much healing to Walt and nancy!
Thank you so much everyone! It is truly a blessing to witness this sense of community! I just increased our goal because of the amazing influx we have already received. I will continue to post updates as I receive them. So far nancy is stable, but still critical. They are trying to balance her fluids and body temp. Walt and the rest of the family should be arriving soon. Again, you are all a blessing and answer to prayer!
On the evening of January 28, 2014, Walt and Nancy Knupp lost their home, all of their possessions, and most of their pets to a house fire. Walt is okay, physically, but Nancy is currently in critical care for burns at UVA in Charlottesville. The road to recovery is going to be painful, both physically and emotionally, and we want her to focus on getting well instead of where they are going to live and how they are going to pay their medical bills. Nancy is the sister of Bill McClung, a pastor in Oak Hill, and daughter of Lois and William McClung, two prominent figures in Fayetteville who passed away in 1991. She is well-known and loved in her community. Many have asked to help monetarily, and I hope this web page can provide a way to do that. We appreciate anyone who wants to help in any way!
