Julia is an 11th grade Vocal Music Major at School of the Arts. The School of the Arts (SOTA) Theatre Department has been selected to perform at the 2014 American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF) in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is Julia's first leading role (She is the Cat in the Hat in the musical Suessical), and what an honor it is to be able to perform in front of a world wide audience in Scotland.

Julia has been performing in productions for a few years now. From Hairspray, to Peter Pan, Avenue Q, and Shrek she has been preparing for this amazing role.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the largest and most prestigious arts festival in the world. This is the second time that School of the Arts has been selected to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

SOTA, long recognized for its entertaining and innovative productions, was selected by the AHSFT Board of Advisors. Made up of college theatre professionals, the AHSTF Board reviews all completed applications and identifies the top high schools based on their most recent bodies of work, awards, community involvement, philosophies and recommendations. This is no small feat as 2500 schools in North America apply, and only 75 are selected and invited to perform.

SOTA is a public inner city high school in Rochester, NY. Although the graduation rate in the district is under 50%, School of the Arts graduates approximately 97% of their senior class each year. This is no small feat as most of the students live beneath the poverty level; and have the undertaking of educating a large portion of homeless youth.

This unique and educational field study is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these selected students. To make this dream a reality, each student needs to raise their tuition individually; this is why we are asking for your support.

The Rochester City School District does not have the available funding to help with this endeavor; so the task is left to the families.
