Million Penny Challenge

Our school is a high poverty school located in the city of Charlotte.
We began our challenge by reading a page in How Much is a Million by Schwartz, which states that counting from one to one million would take 23 days! Many students found this hard to believe.... enter the Million Penny Challenge!

This is a PTA sponsored, school wide project to raise awareness of place value. The purpose: to collect 1,000,000 pennies so students can see how vast a million really is! Each donation will be turned into pennies. If you donate $1.00, you really donated 100 pennies! $10.00 is 1,000 pennies, $20.00 is 2,000 pennies and $100.00 is 10,000 pennies. Every penny counts!

Once we have collected 1,000,000 pennies ($10,000) PTA will use the money to purchase math related supplies for our school's math program, and the students get to help decide what to buy and how to use the money. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn the value of money and how to budget for the things you need and want. Please HELP US with this awesome project! : )
